Secret OS X Control Panel – Productivity Settings

secret-control-panel-settingsSome would call making this it a waste of time. I call it 10 minutes well spent researching user interfaces.

tweets

Information Is Beautiful posted some great infographics about Twitter and its usage. I make no secret of my love for pretty charts and the like, so I found these to be pretty fun.

Read on for the full graph about peak days, hours, who’s a loudmouth and who’s a lazy tweeter. Read the rest of this entry »

In Which I Share My Love of Screen Jelly

August 17th, 2009

Screen Jelly

I’ve tried to do screen recordings, video walkthroughs and the like before. They’ve always required software, and that software requires multiple steps to use. Granted, some screencasting tools are pretty nice. Screen Jelly, however, has seemed do something different: they’ve eliminated cost and complexity and made it dead simple to do screen recording.

You’ve got 3 minutes to record whatever you need and share it in a video. You then then tweet, email or embed it on your site. Now it won’t be a hassle to record walkthroughs! Bonus: I can mark these as private and only share them with people who have the URL.

Zombie Outbreak Scenarios Calculated by Smart People

August 14th, 2009

Zombie Outbreak ChartHere’s about everything you need to know: once it happens, we’ll have about 3-6 hours until everyone in a city is infected, depending on whether or not we quarantine the infected. Here’s a glorious 18 page PDF with all kinds of smartpants equations and more charts.

In summary, a zombie outbreak is likely to lead to the collapse of civilisation, unless it is dealt with quickly. While aggressive quarantine may contain the epidemic, or a cure may lead to coexistence of humans and zombies, the most effective way to contain the rise of the undead is to hit hard and hit often. As seen in the movies, it is imperative that zombies are dealt with quickly, or else we are all in a great deal of trouble.

No More Radiohead Full Lengths for a While.

August 13th, 2009

RadioheadAt least that’s what Thom said in a recent interview with The Believer. I’m quoting the WSJ here since I didn’t buy the issue:

“None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off,” … “I mean, it’s just become a real drag. It worked with ‘In Rainbows’ because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us.”

The WSJ goes on to say that Radiohead will focus on singles and EPs.

My thought: if that’s what works best for you and gives the best record, then go for it. I’ll miss being able to immerse myself in future full lengths though.
