Obama Photoshop Disaster

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Regardless of whether you’re for, against, or apathetic about Obama, I’ve seen this image floating around recently and wanted to bring something to light about this photo where he’s answering the phone: it’s a fake. And as far as this Photoshop nerd is concerned, it’s a pretty poor fake.

Here’s the one circulating:

Followed by the original:

How you can spot the fake:

  • Look closely at his sleeve where the phone cord used to be, and you’ll see a slight bump where someone brushed out the phone cord.
  • Look at the wall, you’ll find the clock it set to 3am, and in the original there actually isn’t a clock to begin with, nor do the lack of shadows around it make it look real at all.

Shame on you bad Photoshoppers! :)

Image Mind Light

The Careless Passing

I’ve been really busy lately on the set of a film called “Image Mind Light.”. I designed a lot of the graphic elements in the film, from logos to currency, as well as provided some promotional photography. It’s an amazing film with a great cast and a top-notch crew! They’re even using those hot Red cameras, so everything looks amazing. Plus, my hot wife is in it!

Image Mind Light is a film about a civilization on the decline. Everything is run-down from wars and changes of power, and it’s a poor society. People have been medicated into sedation and complacency to work and not think about life, but there are those the struggle against what’s going on. And it’s a great story, the script is fantastic.

Here are a few photos from the set, more will be coming as we wrap tonight!

Be sure to view the rest of this entry to see all of them.

Over Water

New photo on flickr!

Since I moved to Seattle, I’ve always wanted a good shot of this, and yesterday I finally got it. I shot this from the car. I have a reaaaaly bad habit of doing that. But lots of my favorite shots have been taken that way! I’ll have to make a post dedicated to that sometime soon.

Enjoy!

Friday linkfest!

Friday, April 18th, 2008

An interesting and somewhat depressing look at some movies being remade that you likely haven’t heard of just yet. I can’t believe they’re looking at remaking Conan. I know it went to TV, so why would there be a need for a remake? Also, I’m pretty sure there are lots of amazing new scripts out there so I wonder why no one would take these out for a spin.

Hot on the heels of adding video to their site, Flickr have added a code site which lets you browse through some of their open source goodies. I know the API site has been around for a while, so it’s nice to see that it’s more public-facing now.

Perhaps more entertaining: make your own Pinhole cameras! It should be known that I have a camera fetish, and on top of that it’s tough to take a pass on making your own pinhole cameras! I’m glad the folks at Corbis did this! Check it out!

Links for Today

I found a video of a guy who gets stuck in an elevator for 41 hours straight in New York, and this is a video of what he did during that time. I got claustrophobic just by watching it. How does this even happen, really?

Here’s an “image” some online genius created of Homer Simpson image made entirely with CSS. The cool thing about this image is that there are absolutely no images involved. It’s all CSS, and totally amazing. How someone comes up with an idea like this is beyond me, but completely blows my mind. Yay for CSS and for this guy’s creativity.

Also, I found this image of some train tracks in Frankfurt that I thought was pretty interesting. The complexity of all of those tracks is pretty neat, and also pretty hard to believe that it’s real. I’d hate to be the guy who pulls the wrong lever day and derails/reroutes all the trains.

Flickr Does Video!

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Totally awesome turn of events: you can now post your videos to your stream and show them off with all the neato interaction and community Flickr has. See above video of my two favorite wizards for reference.

I’m not a video guy mostly; however, given the chance (and a camera) I’d go nuts.

Their servers were getting hammered when I saw it, but I’m sure it’s better now. Check it out!

And thanks to the fine folks over there for having me on the site! I’m honored.

If Only – Before & After

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

I get asked a lot to show the original images I use when I create packaging or other photos. So I’m going to post one for the photo “If Only.”

Before:

Brooks Wood Band - Before

The original photo was actually the last shot I took in the shoot, and took it on a whim. I asked my friend Emilie to put the flowers in the field (that’s her on the side) and shot away! The results were really astonishing when I began to play with it in PhotoShop. I hope you aren’t sad to learn the sky wasn’t really there. :)

And here’s the final shot:

You can see images from the rest of the shoot here. Prints of “If Only” are available if you’d like. Just name your size.
