the-road

Just read the book this weekend. Enjoyed how it was written, and so very stoked to see this movie.

Shotgun Stories

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Saw this beauty over the weekend. It’s an intriguing film about of two sets of half brothers on opposite sides of the socioeconomic fence. They all share a father, but he left one set of brothers in the dust to start a new family. The brothers all meet at his funeral and what follows is a slowly-paced, honest and sad story of revenge, family and spite.

I particularly loved a lot of the photography in the film, some of the shots of Arkansas in there were fantastic. Netflix has it, and I’d highly recommend watching.

Dexter

Totally hooked on this show. Just finished Season 1 and got blown away. Who would have thought I’d fall in love with a show whose main character is a serial killer. Way to go, Showtime.

And thank goodness Netflix lets you watch instantly!

I wanted to make it easier for you to get the content you want on my site quicker. In light of that, I’ve made some individual feeds that you might find of interest.   These RSS feeds only contain content for that specific topic. And of course if you want to get everything, you can still subscribe to the main RSS feed. Here are the categories:

There’s also a Feeds Page, too! Enjoy!

The Dark Knight

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

I was really happy to be able to see The Dark Knight on opening night.  Being a longtime fan of Batman and being part of the superhero generation, I was pretty much foaming at the mouth when I found out there would be a sequel to Batman Begins.

The movie was one of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen.  And surprisingly slim when it came to cheesy dialogue, which seems to plague lots of otherwise good superhero movies (sorry, Iron Man).  The makeup and special effects were nothing short of incredible.  This is especially true with our villains.  And the truck chase scene you saw in the previews was far more amazing than I could have imagined—it was brilliant.

I’d like to make special note of Heath Ledger’s acting here as well.  Not because of his death just before the movie’s release, but because of how great it actually was.  He played very well what I thought to be a dark and crazy villain.  He nailed the mannerisms of The Joker down to the last little detail.

They also seemed to handle multiple villains really well.  Considering Spiderman 3’s approach to multiple villains, The Dark Knight took the cake and drank Spiderman 3’s milkshake.  The villains were pretty well developed, and they didn’t really seem to compete for screen time or seem really flat.  My only criticisms were that a certain villain was in the movie for such a short period of time, I wondered why they were even there.  Perhaps to avoid where Spiderman 3 fell short.

I can’t wait to see this in IMAX!

The Dark Knight: First 6 Minutes

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

In case you haven’t seen it, someone happened to capture it with a handheld camera.  For those of you who are quality snobs or don’t want to spoil the movie, I’d suggest skipping out on this one.

Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I’d say it’s fairly safe to say I have a love affair with Ted.Com.  There are so many great ideas and discussions that sprout after watching these videos, I’m considering making it a daily event for me.

This video is a a really fantastic—and a little humorous—look at how we’re shaped into thinking linearly and steered further away from creative thinking as we progress through school.  Do enjoy!

My Stroke of Insight

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I just saw this amazing video of a brain scientist who studied strokes—and happened to live through one herself.  It’s a great story with lots of insight and ideas; it’s certainly worth the time you spend watching it.

Time is Gone

Last week I wrapped up all the post production on the photographs for this movie, and have never been more pleased to show them. Just FYI, it’s pronounced “sul-shay.” Here’s are a few, you’ll be seeing more soon!

The rest are posted after the break!

Wednesday Goodies

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

We wrapped on the movie last night, and I couldn’t be happier with what I’ve seen. There was even a surprise wrap party, and those are never bad!  I promise more photos soon.  I have quite a few (around 800) to sort through and process.  It’s daunting, but I can’t wait to relive it.  The name has changed to a Bulgarian title:  ”слушам”  which means listen.  When you see the movie it all makes sense.

A couple links for you:  given the busy political season, all the foreign affairs the US is involved in, which seems more unlikely to happen?  That The President appear on Deal or No Deal?  Or that the Presidential hopefuls would appear on Monday Night Raw?

If you guessed one over the other, you’re wrong.  Because they both happened:

More soon!
