When I redid the basement bathroom in my parents’ house, for some reason I didn’t reinstall the tp holder. The tp went into a basket sitting on the back of the toilet. Since then (now ~6 years), in every apartment I’ve lived in, I’ve never put the tp on the holder. Granted, I don’t have a basket for it, but it sits quite contentedly on the back. I think the best thing about this is that there’s no easier way (that I can think of) to replace the tp. But before this shift in habit, I always insisted on overhanging (and sometimes switch it to overhanging in underhanging bathrooms, even in bathrooms of homes/buildings I am visiting).
