Google Can Crawl Flash!

Monday, June 30th, 2008

According to their blog, Google can now index all Flash content, from a self-contained website to a Flash snippet.  It’s great that reading things within a Flash site are now possible with Google, although Flash is still far from an ideal usable solution.  Flash isn’t always supported by mobile devices—yet—nor is it installed on everyone’s machine.

While designers still should try and provide alternative content for non-Flash users, this is one big step in solving the Flash dilemma.

Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I’d say it’s fairly safe to say I have a love affair with Ted.Com.  There are so many great ideas and discussions that sprout after watching these videos, I’m considering making it a daily event for me.

This video is a a really fantastic—and a little humorous—look at how we’re shaped into thinking linearly and steered further away from creative thinking as we progress through school.  Do enjoy!

My Stroke of Insight

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I just saw this amazing video of a brain scientist who studied strokes—and happened to live through one herself.  It’s a great story with lots of insight and ideas; it’s certainly worth the time you spend watching it.

If Net Neutrality Loses

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

We’ll very likely end up with a scenario like this, not unlike what we see for television packages.  The net will be filtered and tiered, and way uncool.

Not sure what net neutrality is?  It basically means that cable companies will control what you see on the internet.  Sites with larger budgets—think MSN.Com or NBC.Com—will run faster because they pay ISPs more money, and the rest will be throttled or filtered out of the equation.  You can read about it on Wikipedia if you’d like.

All for unfiltered internets, raise your hands!
