New Hillmancurtis Film: Sagmeister!
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008
Stefan Sagmeister as a designer has work I have admired for quite some time. Â It wasn’t until I started listening to some great design podcasts with Debbie Millman (also in the film) that I became more and more interested in him. Â I was also fortunate enough to hear him lecture.
The new film talks a lot about his latest book “Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far,” which is chock full of good bits for designers—and non-designers.  I’ve always liked hc’s films on the big designers, they’re always shot so well, and never seem to be anything but great.  It’s definitely worth a look, check it out!
IE8 In The Wild?
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008While digging through my site analytics, I noticed something very interesting. Â A few browsers identifying themselves as IE8 have crawled through my site. Â It was my understanding it wasn’t out of an alpha yet, and is only being tested by Microsoft in-house. Â
I feel strangely honored that super new browsers are crawling my sites! Â If only I had been so lucky as to have the iPhone browser crawl my site before it was out (it did happen to a few, I don’t have an article link handy, sorry.)
Anyone else had these run through their sites?
Pasta Hut?
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008
Seeing as yesterday was April Fool’s, I thought this might’ve gone right along with that whole bunch of nonsense: Â Pizza Hut apparently became Pasta Hut yesterday. Â I wonder why a company that’s been around for so long would just up and change names.
Apparently to lessen any kind of potential brand confusion, they pretty much just kept everything under one roof and changed a couple letters. Â Eh, alright. It would have been great to see something a little more fresh for them, though. Â What do you think about it? Â
On the same note, there were some other pretty good ones that were actually a joke:
- The BBC reported on flying penguins (YouTube link)
- Ford Motors apparently “redesigned” their identity
- A trailer for a Zelda movie was released
Linkroll’d!
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008Probably the most expensive April Fool’s joke I’ve ever seen. Â And the game nerd in me wishes it were for real!

Pay To Remix?
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008It’s no question Super Tuesday is one of my favorite days of the week. Â All kinds of new lovely music comes out, and I love browsing through iTunes and Easy Street to see what’s new.
Today I noticed that on iTunes, Radiohead have posted the multitracks for “Nude.” Â However, you’ve got to pay to remix them. Â It’s great that you’re putting your tunes out there for people to remix, but making them pay for them is pretty lame. Â
I’m sure that as I post this, the NIN camp is probably flipping out right about now. Â Because for some time, Trent Reznor has been offering multi-track files formatted for a variety of programs from Year Zero, Ghosts, and some from With Teeth for some time. Â Oh, and they’re free. Â And the ones from Ghosts are even licensed under Creative Commons. Â So paying for them seems to be a bit of a silly idea.
I love Radiohead and Thom Yorke, but I really haven’t been a fan of how their marketing has been unfolding as of late. Â Sorry guys. Â
